“The Big Brush”  After decades of painting, it is always fun and necessary to change it up. I try abstract, but my customers don’t care for it, so, a Contemporary Impressionist, I shall stay, with a twist. Using a big brush lends to a more exciting carefree approach, which keeps me free. As always, the biggest influence remains the light of Leelanau County.

Painting the levels of land and water created by what the glaciers left behind is fascinating. This Peninsula is one of a kind and one cannot help but think how it was 125 years ago. The endurance of the fisherman and farmers leaves a lasting impression on me. The perseverance and appreciation plus hard work still shows today, and I get to paint it.

One can see abstraction in the big brush. This year, painting has been a delight!
