Introducing Northern Lights
Leland gal 2020 Collection
When I was in high school, around the age of 14, here on the shores of Good Harbor Bay, that was the first time I saw the Northern Lights in person. I remember being down at the beach and seeing the vibrant colors and the sky bouncing up and down with those colors - photographs just don't do it justice. It was very exciting for me, and every time I have seen them since, it brings me back to that initial moment.
This pattern was hard to create with just a simple hand-painted image, to capture that sense of movement. A lot of the movement came after it was painted in Photoshop: the layers of textures, mimicking the sky bouncing and all the layers of colors. The Northern Lights are so spontaneous, the minute you think you have it, it changes.
