Honoring 35 Years
I have known the Rogers family (owners of Manitou Outfitters) as far back as I can remember.
My brother, JP,  worked at Manitou in his college years, and it was the go to spot for all our Patagonia* gear, as well as their own brand, JJ Skivee, plus many more essentials throughout our lives.

"Saint Kay" and Jolly Rogers have been a main stay on Main Street for 35 years, with Manitou Outfitters as a must stop in Leland. When looking through old pics to connect our stories, many of my memories aren't preserved in photograph form ... I have lasting tales of laughter with their two "red heads", Kelly and Katie, from closing down the Blue Bird, to bachelorette parties, and now motherhood and careers.

Best of luck to Kay and Jim! and thank you for inviting me to continue your legacy in this space, a special spot for the continuation of our story. Here's to 35 years of running a family business on Main Street!

What a brilliant segue for Leland Girl as Manitou Outfitters pass the torch and their home base to you, Maggie. It’s a beautiful Leland story of popular folk who helped grow Main Street‘s reputation and built lifelong community friendships along the way – now handing their legacy and location onto a popular, passionate local who treasures the stories and legends of Leland.

I recall when the Rogers opened their store before our family returned to Australia after living in the ‘Land of Delight’. Every visit to the store was an opportunity to take yourself on an outdoor adventure – whether real or dreamed of – knowing you’d be perfectly outfitted for the outdoor life Northern Michigan exemplifies.

Best wishes to you all with this thoughtful and creative move, right in the heart of town. It will be terrific for the town, the visitors, and For all who love it. I can’t wait to see hear the next instalment from Leland gal. Cheers from Australia.

Enjoy your celebration.

Best of luck in retiring Kay and Jim. My Lord it seems like yesterday we were together across the street when we first put our toes into retail. You will survive the shock of not going into the store trust me. Now is the time to let the young kids on the block have the fun we all did.
