Justin Shull is a landscape painter, born in Newport, New Hampshire. He currently lives and works in Traverse City, MI. He received a BA in Studio Art from Dartmouth College and a MFA in Visual Arts from Rutgers. His work has been exhibited and collected nationally, and he has won several national awards from the Joan Mitchell Foundation, the College Art Association, and the International Sculpture Center.
He finds inspiration in the landscapes. He works primarily from observation, either “en plein air” or in the studio in a variety of media, including acrylics, oils, gouache and digital. He aims to make direct, dynamic, and vibrant paintings of the ordinary spaces that we occupy and move through in everyday life.

We are excited to welcome Mary Leon of Vida La Leland to her first Leland gal artists popup! Mary is an original Leland local. She has such a bright, positive and optimistic viewpoint on life that we should all embody. Leon says, “dive into life is my motto. The first step is always the most terrifying. Thoughts fight and clash.” Mary is passionate about bringing pieces of her travels from Mexico to Leelanau County.
